Can dogs hike in Great Smoky Mountains National Park?
Partial Partly. Some trails and areas, not all.
Only two trails in the whole park allow dogs.
Where dogs can go
The Gatlinburg Trail and the Oconaluftee River Trail, plus roads, campgrounds, and the Cades Cove Loop by truck.
What we do instead
The Blue Ridge Parkway the next day, where leashed dogs are allowed on the trails.
TN/NC. On our route: around Dec 14 to 19. Rules change: check the park's own pet page before you go. Rhea is never boarded or kenneled; where she can't go, we find somewhere she can.
